Can men take prenatal vitamins to be more healthy, or are they for women only?

Obviously a baby is made up of two people, a mother and a father, and they both donate genes and a set of genetic codes that are going to determine who that baby is and also what problems they might potentially have early and later in life. A lot of medical problems are genetic. When it comes to the actual health of the baby more of it has to do with what the mother does while she is pregnant, the types of things she ingests, like a prenatal vitamin, the types of things she eats and she drinks because the baby is nourished by the mother during the pregnancy. The things that she eats and drinks can flow through the placenta and get to the baby. When it comes to the father’s side of things, as long as he’s avoiding alcohol, tobacco products, and drugs then he’s doing all he can to make sure the baby is as healthy as possible. His diet won’t necessarily affect the wellbeing of the baby. The fact that your husband doesn’t like to eat veggies won’t affect the health of your baby. When it comes to taking a prenatal vitamin, that definitely won’t be harmful to him. A vitamin just has essential vitamins and nutrients that we all need to function. A man’s body does have slightly different needs so there are vitamins out there that are tailored specifically to a man’s needs. A prenatal vitamin is tailored specific to a woman’s body’s needs while she is of child-bearing age. As long as your husband, like I said, is avoiding alcohol, drugs, and tobacco he’s doing all he can to make sure your baby is as healthy as possible. Good luck with everything and if you have any other questions for me in the future feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
