Steroids – What are Steroids Exactly?
You may have heard about steroids being used by athletes such as baseball players, cyclists, body builders to boost their athletic performance. You’ve probably wondered what a steroid was too. Well an anabolic steroid is a steroid, such as testosterone, that induces muscle growth. It is also defined as any natural or synthetic compounds containing a 17-carbon 4-ring.
Steroids are prescribed topically for eczema, inhaled for asthma, and injected for joint and muscle problems. Some even take steroids orally for other medical reasons. The steroid is an anti- inflammatory medication that is absorbed by the inflamed nerves to decrease swelling and relieve pressure. When given by mouth or intravenously, the steroid is absorbed and deposited throughout the body by the blood stream. Whenever systemic steroid is used, any infection must be looked for and treated promptly since it suppresses the immune system.
The most common form of steroid is the anabolic steroid. An anabolic steroid is defined as any group of synthetic derivatives of testosterone that promote muscle and bone growth. Anabolic Steroid is the familiar name for synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones (androgens). For strength and muscle mass gains, this anabolic steroid is very effective. The users of steroids want to increase the anabolic effects and reduce the androgenic effects, but no steroid is known to have just anabolic effects. In the female, steroids will lower the voice and cause facial hair growth, because the steroid is a testosterone derivative.
There are many dangerous side effects to steroid use for sports. Use of steroids without a doctor’s care is not a good idea. If you want to build strength and muscle, a better bet would be to use legal steroids that are plant derived such as Mesobolin.
