Testosterone Boosters – Harmful Side Effects of High Testosterone Levels
Testosterone boosters enhance the levels of testosterone in your body by stimulating its production. Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, responsible for the healthy functioning of your reproductive system. It also contributes to increased muscle and body mass and bone density and prevents osteoporosis. The hormone in adequate levels is important to a healthy body. That said, excessive testosterone could cause harmful side effects. You should be aware of these side effects before you consider taking boosters.
1. Aggression – High testosterone levels have been seen to increase aggression in males. The behavior traits include tendency towards violence, difficulties with anger control, and excessive rage. If you face these problems it is best to stop taking testosterone boosters and consult a doctor.
2. Liver Damage – High testosterone levels, especially for a long time, could cause damage to your liver. This is typically seen if you take exogenous supplements – testosterone in the form of steroids (which is why they are illegal). Testosterone boosters usually do not cause this. Still, if you have trouble with liver it is best to consult a doctor and find out the causes before you start on the boosters.
3. Infertility – Strange, is not it? To think that testosterone is the primary sex hormone and it causes infertility. The reason for the side effect is that excessive testosterone interferes with spermatogenesis (generation of sperms) which naturally converts into infertility. If you are considering taking testosterone boosters because of infertility, a visit to the doctor seems to be in order.
4. Damage to Prostrate – Well, this difficulty is present with testosterone boosters as well and not just exogenous testosterone. The prostrate could get enlarged which could make urination difficult and painful. And worse, if you already have prostrate cancer the hormone will increase its rate of spreading. This is why a prostrate exam is a must before you start taking the boosters.
5. Minor Side Effects – Insignificant side effects of high testosterone levels include acne and hair loss due to male-pattern baldness (which by the way is irreversible). It is not seen in every body who take testosterone boosters. But if you see these symptoms and do not care to have them, then it is best to stop taking the boosters.
