Vitamins

Which are the best vitamins for men and women? Vitamins are organic compounds, required in small amounts, but vital for the functioning of the body. Apart from vitamin D which can be made by the body in small amounts, vitamins have to consumed through our diet.

Each vitamin is unique in it’s physiological action, but most act as catalysts in the creation of enzymes without which hundreds of essential chemical reactions in the body would slow down or stop.

Body processes assisted by vitamins include formation of hormones, blood cells, genetic material, nervous system compounds and enzymes. There are 13 well known vitamins, each of which are either fat soluble or water soluble.

The fat soluble vitamins include vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. As they can be dissolved in fat, they can be stored by the body and don’t need to be consumed every day.

The water soluble vitamins include all the B vitamins and vitamin C. Water soluble vitamins can’t be stored by the body and need to be consumed frequently, through our daily diet.
