Each vitamin is unique in it’s physiological action, but most act as catalysts in the creation of enzymes without which hundreds of essential chemical reactions in the body would slow down or stop.
Body processes assisted by vitamins include formation of hormones, blood cells, genetic material, nervous system compounds and enzymes. There are 13 well known vitamins, each of which are either fat soluble or water soluble.
The fat soluble vitamins include vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. As they can be dissolved in fat, they can be stored by the body and don’t need to be consumed every day.
