Acute vs. Chronic Stress

Different Kinds of Stress
Part 1 – Acute vs. Chronic Stress

Acute stress is when a single stressful event occurs. Getting sick or losing your job are examples of an acute stress that will effect you. At the same time, getting a big promotion also counts as a stressful event, even though it is good stress. Any big change will create stress.

Chronic stress is closer to the kind of stress we have been experiencing since the recession began. A series of stressful events, such as multiple illnesses in the family or work-related stress create chronic stress. It effects us all differently, even in performance – both at home and at work.
