Vitamin C and Kidney Stones
One common contributor to kidney stone formation is Vitamin C and calcium supplements. But not all of them. This video explains which ones to avoid and why. A quick summary is that the normal cheap commercial vitamin C most people buy is synthetic ascorbic acid isolate made in a lab by combining corn starch and sulfuric acid…which breaks down in the body into oxalic acid, which binds with calcium in the kidneys forming calcium oxalate stones – otherwise known as kidney stones. This is different than consuming herbal vitamin C or whole plant foods because the oxalic acid in plants is already tightly bound with calcium before ingested, making the oxalates insoluble so they simply pass through the body. A more in-depth video on oxalates is coming up so stay tuned for that also.
