DIY Green Tea Tea Spray/Rinse for Natural Hair
Hey Maicurlies,
This is the other tea I like using on my hair – Green Tea. There are a number of different teas you can pick from depending on what you want to get from them and I have listed a few along with their benefits on my blog: http://maicurls.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/tea-spraysrinses-for-hair/
Before I go any further I want to point out that even though teas are great for the hair, everyone’s hair responds differently therefore, always speak with your doctor or medical professional before you start anything new. Also this video is for educational purposes and should not be used as a medical solution for any issues you might have with your hair/scalp. Always consult your doctor especially if you are pregnant.
With that said, here are some benefits of using Green Tea:
Stimulates hair growth
Stops excessive hair shedding
Provides the hair with a boost of luster and bounce
Soothes scalp irritations
Adds a natural shine to the hair
Strengthens the hair
Helps reduce dandruff, itchy scalp and light scalp irritations
Helps condition the hair
Said to help reduce premature graying when used frequently
Known to darken the hair with frequent and consistent use*
*If you have light, bleached or dyed hair and do not want it to darken I would suggest not using Green Tea.
Please refer to my Blog Post for more details on Green Tea:
I like using a spray bottle because I can control how much/little is applied instead of pouring the tea all over my hair. I mainly spritz my roots (damp or dry) and leave it on without rinsing off the tea. I store the bottle in my fridge for no more than 1 week and then make a new batch.
Ingredients used:
2 Green Tea tea bags*
1 cup Water (7.7oz)
1 teaspoon Glycerin (o.1oz) – (optional – you can substitute this with another ingredient see below)
2 teaspoons Coffee Infused Grapeseed Oil (you can use any Carrier Oil of choice)
3 drops Peppermint Essential oil (you can use any Essential Oil of choice if you are pregnant do not use EO)
*If Green Tea is new to your routine I would suggest rinsing off the tea to start off with and if you feel like your hair likes it, you can build up to leaving it on without rinsing. I also would suggest starting off with a “low dosage” and space out the application to see how your hair responds to the tea. You can always increase the amount of tea used, the frequency of application and the duration it stays on your hair afterwards. If you are pregnant, speak with your personal physician/doctor before using tea on your hair!
For some Green Tea can be drying on the hair therefore adding moisturizing ingredients can help fight that dryness, which is why I add glycerin – a humectant that draws moisture in the air to the area applied. If your hair does not like glycerin you can substitute it with honey, Aloe Vera Juice, Agave Nectar or omit it completely). My DIY Coffee Infused Grapeseed Oil is great for reducing hair shedding, reduces breakage, is known to help slow down premature graying & the appearance of grey hairs. It is light and does not weigh down the hair and the coffee aspect helps to stimulate hair growth. I add Peppermint EO because it smells awesome but it also helps to fight dandruff, keeps the scalp clean and also is known to help stimulate growth in the roots.
I hope you enjoy the video!
