The Prophet added, “By Allah in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the breath of a fasting person is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.”
But to people its not! What can we do to get rid of this smell or at least cut it down?
Before we talk about how, we need to discuss why bad breath occurs.
There are two places bad breath can come from:
1. Mouth
2. Stomach
1.Our mouths have saliva to break down the food and wash any bacteria that is in our mouth. When we are not eating and dehydrated, we don’t have enough saliva to wash off this bacteria, hence the bad breath.
2.Our stomach has digestive juices that help to break down the food. But since there is no food, these acidic juices begin to break down, causing a foul smell.
We can avoid the bad breath from our mouths by making sure to food particles are left in our mouth. These can be achieved by following:
1. Miswaak or Toothbrush
2. Flossing (use floss picks – it is easier to use than traditional floss)
Also make sure to drink lots of water at Sahoor (morning breakfast) and also to avoid raw food like Garlic and Onion.
